Alfredo Roces obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana in 1954 after which he studied an extra a year under German Dadaist George Grosz at the Arts Students League of New York.

Voted Artist of The Year by the prestigious Art Association of the Philippines in 1975 and a Grand Prize winner at the AAP’s 25th Annual Show, he was named one of Ten Outstanding Young Men in 1961. As well as holding 20 one man shows, as artist, he has illustrated and designed books, exhibited his pottery at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila.

In 2009 he collaborated with Aboriginal artist Kevin Duncan in an earthwork exhibit for 5-Lands Walk ceremony on a hill in Terrigal Gosford NSW, Australia. In 2014 he was a recipient of the Pamana Ng Pilipino presidential award for Filipino individuals and organizations overseas from the Commission on Overseas Filipinos.
